The light-pink version of Impatiens sodenii is a common sight in California gardens. Here is a new hot-pink color form that will knock your socks off! The 'Flash' Impatiens is a rare hybrid of Impatiens sodenii with large blooms splashed with fluorescent pink. And the color never stops, because it flowers all year long! This robust Impatiens can reach gargantuan proportions - to 7 feet tall or more! I don't know anyone else offering fresh seeds online.
The "Flash" Impatiens is a perennial bush with vigorous, upright growth, similar to the common form of the species. If you don't want a person-sized bush, you may prune it to any size you wish. The flowers are about 2½ inches across and have a curved "tail" in back up to 5 inches long! The crisp-white petals are generously splashed with hot pink, which look like they're airbrushed on. This plant is a very heavy bloomer and flowers practically non-stop for me. Seedlings from this plant will look very similar to the photos here, and some plants may have even more coloration. Feel free to cross-breed this plant with other Impatiens, to create new & exciting varieties! Like many Impatiens, it is happiest in moderate daytime temperatures and cooler nights. It might not thrive if temperatures consistently get over about 85 degrees F (29 C) and nights are warm. I don't think it can survive below 30 degrees F (-1 C). It may be grown as an annual outdoors, or grow it in a pot indoors. It grows well in filtered sun or bright shade. Protect it from hot afternoon sun. Like most Impatiens, it prefers fertile, well-draining soil that is kept evenly moist. Over 40-50% humidity is best.
