Flash

The soft-pink version of this plant is a common sight in California gardens.  Here is an exciting hot-pink color form that will knock your socks off!  The "Flash" Impatiens is a rare hybrid of Impatiens sodenii ("Poor Man's Rhododendron"). Splashed with screaming fluorescent pink, this Impatiens is very easy to grow, and can reach gargantuan proportions - to 7 feet or more!  And the color never stops, because it flowers all year long!  This is a very hard-to-find plant that you're not likely to find in local nurseries.

Sodenii

The common form of Impatiens sodenii

The "Flash" Impatiens is an evergreen perennial bush that can be grown indoors or out.  Like it's cousin, it has strong, upright growth and can get taller than you if left unpruned.  The flowers are about 2½" across the face, and have a curved "tail" in back up to 5" long! The crisp white petals are generously splashed with hot pink, which appear to be airbrushed on. This plant is a very heavy flowerer and can bloom almost every month of the year. Feel free to cross-breed this plant with other Impatiens, to create new and exciting varieties!

Flash

Like the common Impatiens sodenii, the Flash is easy-to-grow and likes rich, moist soil and bright light.  It does well in anything from bright shade to morning + late afternoon sun.  It may not thrive in very hot or dry climates.  It can probably take a brief, light frost, but it's advisable to protect it from all frost.  Grows best between 45 and 85 degrees.  Grows well indoors in a pot, provided that the air isn't too dry.
